Elena Gomez

I was born in Los Angeles and grew up as an artist in New Mexico. I studied at the University of New Mexico, under Adrienne Salinger, Elena Baca, Thomas Barrow, and Jim Stone. I learned non-silver techniques and was instantly hooked. I like the way it abstracts an image, taking away detail and obscuring the realism of a photographic record. Negatives are transformed into monochromatic high-contrast images. They can be continually manipulated with multiple passes. This level of experimentation and unexpected results excites me as an image maker. Moving back home to Los Angeles in 2009 was a good move for me.
